Welcome to Life
We invite you to rediscover the fine art of living. SIMPLIFY! Slow down and remember again all that really matters like the porch swing, and a long conversation with an old friend, your favorite slippers and a good old book. And mostly- remember the dinner table (one of the best gifts from God)- the good smells, tastes, and sounds. Slow down and sit together, hold hands when you pray and thank God for his provision of good food, good friends & family, good conversation and a good life. What we truly value is what we truly practice. Sometimes we say we value something but it is not reflected in our practices. We are not perfect in our practice, but here are Highland’s values that are based on what Christ values, and our desire for simplicity.
Loving God
with all our heart, mind, soul & strength through our worship, prayers, & choices
Mark 12:30, Ephesians 5:19-20, Matthew 21:13, Ephesians 5:1-2
Loving People
all people matter to God regardless of a person’s past
Romans 5:8, I Timothy 2:4
Authenticity
it’s essential for us to be "real” with God, one another, and with ourselves
Ephesians 4:25, Lamentations 3:40
Living Beyond Ourselves
God has called us to move beyond selfish living to serve others
Philippians 2:2-5, II Corinthians 5:20
Healthy Community
we are made for it, not isolation. "No man is an island."
Ephesians 2:21, 4:16
Relevance
we are to engage culture, not run from it. Acts 17:16-34
Releasing to Reveal
God has called us to release things that hinder us from revealing Christ in our everyday world, beyond the church walls. Matthew 28:19-20, Romans 10:14-16, Hebrews 12:1 Giving Full Devotion to Jesus—He is in the center not the periphery of our lives
II Corinthians 5:15, I Corinthians 15:58
Family
time with our physical and spiritual families is vital; we ruthlessly hack ‘solo’ & ‘busy’ activities off the calendar so we can rediscover the fine art of living Deuteronomy 6:5-7 Generational Wealth—the ‘wealth’ is people; it takes the young & old to pass the baton of faith & leadership to the next generation.
Hebrews 13:7, II Timothy 3:14, I Corinthians 15:3a
